  1. I remember reading a post somewhere on the forum about Bosch power tolls and that the two different colours(blue and green) represented different sorts of tools. One colour being aimed at the DIY market and the other at 'proffessional users'. However now I want the information I can't find the post. Can anyone help. Thanks
  2. Thank God I read this post. We are moving to France soon and I frquently read items on this forum. I was begining to panic as a lot of the post seem to be from people who have 'integrated' and seem to look down on people who haven't. I was seriously begining to think that we had made a big mistake. But from reading these posts I am much happier. I realise that we don't have to 'integrate' to fit in and live a great life in France. We are not great 'joiners in' here in the UK so I guess we will just carry on as we are and still enjoy ourselves. Thank you all for the positive posts here.
  3. We visited this site a few years ago and it is facinating. The artisans are always ready to answer questions and explain what they are doing. All the 'ancillary' trades around as well so you find out how the workers were fed and clothed. What better way to see history in action and to inspire youngsters to take an interest in history than to see it with your own eyes.
  4. Thanks for all answers. I always knew that health care was going to cost us so have kept money in reserve. The problem is of course that by the time we had enough money to fulfil the dream we are too old really to start working in another country, although not old enough to collect oap.
  5. After thinking about buying a house in France for years and dreaming about it too--it's about to become reality. We have had an offer accepted on a house! However am I alone in now coming down to earth with a bump and thinking 'What have we done?' We want to live in France permenantly-for some years at least. We have done research-both of us are early retirees. What did others find the biggest problems when they first moved aqnd what were the things that you really worried about only to find that they weren't as bad as you thought? My main concern in the french tax system-although the tax explainations on this site are great. What one piece of advice would you give me to help the move go smoothly?
  6. Please excuse my ignorance but are LPG and Calor gas the same thing? If not which is the more widely available in France, or the best value. Is one dearer than the other? Is one better to cook with than the other? Any advice gratefully recieved.
  7. I know that to use a laptop in France I need one of these rather than use my english dongle as that costs a fortune but I don't know what I need to buy. My dongle bought in the UK came with approx  1 years usage on it pre-paid. Can I buy some thing similar in France or are they all PAYG or contract? I need one for our house hunting expeditions to France and also to tide us over when we {hopefully}buy our property. Any help gratefully received.
  8. Thanks for that. Spot the deliberate mistake! I'm very new to posting on sites like this and I've put it in the wrong area!!! If you hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't have noticed!I will now try to post in the correct area. Thanks.
  9. After a long time thinking about it,we are finally taking the plunge and hoping to move to France later this year. However the exitement is tinged with not a little fear. My french is reasonable for day to day activities but my husbands is virtually non-existant . Does anyone have suggestions about how to organise the practicalities of the move e.g. reconnecting utilities, sorting out getting registered for tax (both income tax and local taxes)Can you recommend a good step by step guide (I have the usuall-living and working in France/Buying a House in France ect) We expect that we will be moving to the north dordogne region maybe in the Perigueux/Brantome area. Any useful contact or organisations in that area would be welcome.Have you foung that officials are helpful and understanding of your faltering efforts at their language?Any advice is gratefully recieved.
