  1. Cheers. Havingspent yesterday repairing an extractor fan with a 100mm pipe, 80 sounds dead right!!
  2. Forgive me for this, but I am currently in the UK. Our house is approx' 30 years old, and has the grey metal guttering down pipes for roof drainage. I'm getting a elbow connector for the terrace drainage, but forgot to measure the downpipe. I know the diameter of the elbow, but need the diameter of the standard downpipe to get the right reducer. Anyone know? I think it's 100mm. Ta
  3. Ours is about the same, 5 x 3, so I'm going to try the mix I have been given, as of course, it's the only less than the first half metre that gets really horrible, and I think I can get to hat off a ladder. We shall see!!
  4. Currently being told a mixture of water, liquid detergent and Borax, mixed (no bubbles) soaked in for twenty minutes, but I am hoping somebody has somthing better than hearsay!!
  5. We have one of the exterior mounted, wind out sun shades, which, in the course of a year, gets rained on, then is in brilliant, hot sunshine. Because of this, they have a tendency to get a bit "green" and mildewey. What's the best way of restoring/cleaning these? Long term. I'm going to have it retract into a box, with the edge, fabric valence, being replaced with an MDF version, that will form the front of the box when retracted, but in the meantime, a good clean, hopefully without taking it down. Any suggestions?
  6. Yes it would seem an afternoon with the JigSaw. I saw the one in the link (89 Euros!!!!!), which is what made me think of using the Teak decking I have, as it's the same! At least if I make it, it will be solid and not crudely stapled together. Obviously come with the cubicle kit, and not sold seperately
  7. I need to replace a 1/4 round caillebotis de douche, or wooden duckboard in my corner shower cubicle, and having searched EVERYWHERE, it appears you can't simply buy one. I have some deck Teak, so I could repair, or even make one, but it's a quick/short term fix so I'd rather just buy one. Has anyone seen these for sale, and where? As I say, quater radius. the two sides are 27 inches each, and at the radius from the corner point is 32 inches. Though I sense the jigsaw coming out!!
  8. Though the formula I saw was 175 litres per person per day. It's all a bit like other French regs/laws, adjustable!!!
  9. So eight people would be a shade under 3500 litres, much what I suggested to my chum. His calculation came out at 12,000 litres!!!!
  10. A techical question. Is there a set formula to work out the size of Fosse required for a property. I would assume it should be done on the maximum number of people the house could sleep. but someone (who tends to guess at laws and such!!)claims it should be worked out on the highest possible water flow.  Much though I argue that a formula bases on occupation would include, washing, washing machines etc, he is adamant it's calculated on water flow. In which case, what would be the required size of Fosse for a ouse that can sleep eight?
  11. Anyone had any experience with/purchased/ can recommend an exterior floor paint, possibly Latex based. It's a short term fix until we tile.

  13. It's sightly uphill, so it looks easy to pull up the slope and freewheel back down and turnaround. I put a low wall of rocks. Someone drove over them, and then someone stole some of the stones! So I dug it up and put vegetables there, someone drove over them. I parked a car there, someone hit it, only slightly, but still. But it's a useful area for us, so I don't want to fence it off permanately. The site fencing I fear wouldn't be enough to stop the ardent idiot!!
  14. I'm currently going down the route of using plastic drain pipe sunk in lengths vertically into the ground, and inserting round wooden fence posts. Then hooking the wire fence over hooks on the fence posts.
  15. It just needs to show a boundary, as we get a lot of people coming in (we are down the end of a private road) and turning around, and tearing up whatever we have tried to put there, including vegetables. That's the main reason, but we don't need the fence all the time, so it needs to be able to come down for access for us, for various reasons.
  16. Already do that with my other fences. With this particular fence, I need to take the whole thing down, the ease of strimming is just a bonus!
  17. Well I have been taxing my brain, so I thought I'd try and tax some of yours as well!!! I have a small enclosure that I need to fence one end of. Three of the sides are well blocked off by bramble, hedges and trees, which also have wire fencing behind. The open run is straight and approx' 40 to 50 feet. Easy enough, but I need to be able to remove it and refit the fence every so often, if not only to make strimming the area easy!! I can't install regular square sockets to accept removable fence posts (rocks, big big rocks in the ground), and was contemplating putting lorry load ractchet strapss around the trees at each end, and putting metal bars vertically through the wire mesh fence at each end, with 6mm wire running the length of the mesh fencing attached to  them. Them, I could tension the whole run with the ratchets, and bang in a few thin metal uprights to help support it, while up. Then, when I need the thing down, release the tension, roll it up, and bung it in the shed. Anyone got better ideas/suggestions? And, if I have got it right, where's the best palce to geet the stuff?
  18. Thank you Theiere, that's how I read it. If it's sensible or not, that's how it reads to me!
  19. Although I have meet someone who has an approved alarm, and a removable 9v electric fence, which he says is "to keep animals out"!!!!
  20. Sorry for the poor translation, but it explains what is starting as of July 1st This is the basics of the new laws applicable from 1 July 2015: The Prohibition of smoking in the car with Minors (68 € fine) Prohibition of eating at the wheel (75 € of fine) Prohibition at the hands-Free Kit (135 € / 3 points) Prohibition of search in the box has gloves en roulant Listen to the music too strong (preventing to hear the movement) (75 € of fine) Prohibition of the port of earphones, Atria or headphones while driving (135 € / 3 points) Novice drivers the authorized limit will therefore move to 0,2 g / l of alcohol in the blood instead of 0,5 g / l in force today. 0,2 g / L (135 euros and Points) Se Maquiller even to the judgment in the file (75 € of fine) Watch a screen not intended for assistance to conduct (150 € of fine / 3 points)
  21. Yes, I have been in the process of calculating thelikely weight!!! Our pool is 10 x 4 metres, so I envisaged 5 2x4 (obviously a little bigger to go over the edge) panels, but I had been thinking they't be heavy old things!
  22. It's all a "laugh" isn't it!!! I have said a few times, if it was a pond, nobody would think twice, so maybe the solution is to let the water turn green and move some frogs in. My long term solution is to cover the pool. (Wooden decking boards on frames, that lift over the pool when we are not there, and are lifted off, on to the concrete surround to form the pool side walking areas when we are), in conjunction with the alarm. The alarm means I have at least one of the required modes, the cover (way to heavy for kids to lift off) giving me the peace of mind (though not I understand confirm to the code, but then the alarm is there!!!) as nothing will fit through the gaps. Trust me, I understand that every country makes laws that don't quite make sense, and are frought with grey areas, that's how we can never win!!
  23. You see, there are the  grey areas. If I went shopping for the morning, and someone wondereed in and fell in, I, nor none of my neighbours would hear the alarm, let alone respond. But I have met the criteria. The fact I may go on holiday, or go away to work is, ultimately no different. No one can stay in their house 24/7, just in case, just because they have a pool. I know of French families who work in Paris, and have homes near us with pools, and each has attempted to meet the criteria. One has a cover, one has a fence, one has just an alarm, and another an alarm and fence. The Marie told them, they have met the criteria. It boils down to what you can do, and what is sensible, because ultimately the only 100% cast iron way to prevent accidents would be to employ a 24/7, 52 weeks of the year pool guard, and sit him in a deckchair just watching. Trust me, I understand why the law exists, and I applaud it, it's just, like a lot of laws (breathalysers etc) half arsed, and full of grey areas, until, as has been pointed out, it does go wrong, then I know the French would make the law apply to the situation. The law does say "Either", "or", and obviously all would be better, but we can only read the law as written. I was told there is a codicile to the law regarding age. It is unlikely a five year old would wonder on to my property alone, so should someone "help themselves" and it goes wrong, it is assumed (by the French, not me), that they were  old enough to know what they were doing and therefore understood the risks. I have yet to see this in print mind you! As for trusting a "crappy" alarm. That is what the law is suggesting, that we trust an alarm, or a cover, or a fence. The alarm I have is above the required standard, and far from crappy, and I get  the feeling if you had all three, it still wouldn't be enough, none of the methods is infallable to someone determined to get in, like house alarms, but you have to look at the age group the methods are aimed at, which I  would venture would be 12/13 and below. No, I am not happy about leaving the pool and worry endlessly when we aren't at home, either just going shopping for the morning, or having to be away working, and if I could have all three prevention methods, I would, but sometimes it simply isn't possible, for many reasons and you can only do as much as you can, and as I say, by the way the law is written, and has been passed, I am covered
  24. I understand what you're saying, it's just missing my point, and the questions I asked. Yes, a heavy cover would do it, if it were possible, whicjh it isn't. The questions I asked were is it either, or, and can I lose the fence?
