  1. Yes - it is so peaceful, especially here away from alpine resorts. In the Jura you get huge vistas and very few people- all you can hear usually is birds twittering int he trees and the swish of your skis. Where do you go?
  2. We were on a long sand bank on the New Jersey shore, I think it is called Barnacle. Will look it up. Anyway - hope you get to her soon.
  3. Arghhhhh - what a shame. Hope you see your girl soon. Last time I was in New Joysey - we had to stay with my cousin in her shore house for a week due to hurricane Floyd - it was mighty impressive! We just watched the beach disappear in front of the house and wondered when the house would go- but calm returned about 2 m in front of the deck!   Bonne chance.
  4. It sounds harsh - but AnOther is right. We used to have a paddock behind us in the UK, and a tall mixed hedge separating our garden from said paddock. Against all expectations and a covenant (which did not hold as it was agreed in the 1920s with 3 owners in between) planning permission was given for a small cul-de-sac of private houses to be built there. The bungalow next to us was built only 6 ft from our hedge, with the kitchen door next to a tall elder. The old couple who bought the bungalow could clearly see the hedge when they visited the house twice - the hedge and elder were there the day they decided to buy the house, the day they signed the contract and the day they moved. They then requested that we cut the hedge and got rid of the elder (stains on slabs) - but we very politely declined. They went on and on, nasty letters, etc. We of course gave them permission to cut over-hanging branches, as per the law. They told us they had bought that particular bungalow because it was much cheaper than the others!
  5. Montagnard should be shaded white not green! Our garden is definitely white - under 1 m of snow- and there won't be any planting for quite some time!
  6. Cute - coin coin dans son coin! Is the storm over?
  7. Frenchie ... bonnes vacances! Vas-tu rester chez toi, ou aller voir ta famille ou aller en Angleterre? Quoique tu fasses, repose-toi et amuse-toi bien. Et bonne vacances à tous ...
  8. Arghh- so bad weather is not just a Jura speciality! Had a fabulous day on the piste on Thursday, sunny and magnificent view of the Alps. Hope things have calmed down a little - where is your canard (pas enchainé j'espère!)   Swissie
  9. Any 'ski de fond' fans out there? Fabulous conditions lately - and enjoying every minute.
  12. Just eaten our first choucroute of the year, after a cross country skiing morning - very popular in the Jura too. Could never eat one without lots of fresh air and exercise first!
  13. Wooly - I thought your sister wore her knickers on her head!
  14. We've had about 50cm in the last 3 days - sunny and..... -26.5 for cross-countryski trip this morning - and a blizzard this pm with more snow! The Jura!!
  15. Yes, often thought that could be a really good option - but also have lots of potential for lots of troubles and arguments- would have to pick 'partners' carefully! I have a friend who owns at Les Seniorales in Perpignan and just loves it - although they only use it as a holiday home.
  16. Passé tout près de Daventry ce midi pour aller à l'aéroport de Luton - pensé à toi Frenchie- envoie-moi des nouvelles. De retour ce soir avec du retard à cause de la neige- je ne vais pas tarder à sauter dans les plumes! A +   Odile
  17. Off to finish packing + bed in half an hour- early start tomorrow. If you are awake Frenchie, try to send me some news. BIG BIG HUGS - hope things will improve soon.
  18. JR- I am so sorry you are going through all this after your wife's serious illness and drastic treatment. I have no expertise in the subject- but just wanted to say 'thinking of you all' - hope things improve for all of you- but that you will be able to say Good bye should Ben ever be in pain. Bonne chance xx Swissie
  19. Argh bubbles - what a very hard decision to make, I wish you the very best of luck - what a shame we are so far away in the Jura as we have about 100 moving boxes in the Grange, with many with incorporated clothes hangers. Good luck with sorting things out - and hopefully finding good homes for them, like Emmaus. It takes a lot longer to give things away than put them in a skip - but it feels a lot better. Courage.
  20. Swissie

    Homes wanted.

'but for the grace of God' as said above. I can't possible imagine what it must be like - and I am sorry I can't help at the mo. Again, well done for planning early and trying your very best. Hope you put more details and pictures here soon, and that you will find a solution. xx
  21. I'm afraid this is a very sensible answer, especially as you are a new poster here. Hope you find a way.
  22. On a parlé de blaireaux sur un autre thread - alors connaissez-vous l'expression   'je ne peux pas le/la blairer'  qui veut dire 'I can't stand him/her. Ou 'c'est un vrai blaireau' = he is a boring old s*d Bonne nuit.
  23. We are at 950m and about as far from the sea as you can get in Europe- so hopefully we will be OK for a few years[;-)]
