1. Also, the netting being a good idea over the cot, but if that doesn't suit you could actually just get some net curtain material and nail it to the top of the door frame and then tie it to the baby gate  with ribbon thereby leaving the door open so you can hear little one but effectively keeping the cats out without too much complicated fiddling to get into the room.  Eventually I think the cat will get bored and give up - ours go through fads of wanting to be in a particular spot  (usually one I prefer they wouldn't like on a shelf where I keep crystal glasses) and then just move on somewhere else.  They used to say that they like the smell of milk that surrounds a baby and a next door cat used to regularly jump into my baby's pram when he was out in the garden and nest next to the baby - the net over the pram didn't work but our dog soon got the message and used to guard the pram after than!  Quite funny really as after that whenever we went out walking to the shops the dog used to growl and bare her teeth at anyone who came even vaguely near the pram she didn't like or know!
2. Rowan sent me some snaps of Malcolm with his new owner last night - don't know if I can face trying to go through all that palava with photobucket again....... whimp aren't I?  The new owner is a youg man and I hope he will be kind to Malcolm for he is a lovely natured dog and deserves some happy times.
3. Their names are Holly and Ben by the way - so English bless them.
4. Yes- Russethouse to the rescue again!  Thank you - can you tell me how you do it?  What was I doing wrong?  I do like to get these things right if I can without bothering other people and not a total numb-skull.......
5. OK - did all the right things to get these pics on here but it hasn't worked!  Can anyone help?  Got my husband to do it and he says it should have worked......... so frustrating.
6. Pictures as promised.
7. Thanks for the links Christine - I have passed them on.  I just hope the fellow is happy and can now recover and REST!  Even my little Molly slept for three days after I got her out of there - she was just so exhausted and being an old lady as well she was skin and bone and weary beyond belief bless her.  She's zipping round the place now, ribs beginning to disappear and very intelligent - I love the 'oldies' so I hope the one that got out at the week-end has found some peace too.  Just got the pics of the two old Jack Russells whose owner died.......... am going to post them on that subject today.
8. I am hoping to get photos of this pair today - they are both sterilised and are presently being looked after by a friend (who is unable to keep them) of the deceased in the Tarn.
9. I'm thrilled to hear it and I have told the lady who was interested in him - she's pleased too!  She asked for us to let her know if ever we hear of a little lady Staffie that needs a home as her last faithful died last Christmas and she loves them as a breed and would love another one should there be one needing a home ever.  She has a busy summer ahead but I think she may well be looking seriously come the autumn and would also consider a Bull Terrier as well after she fell for Malcoml in his plight!  That dog was dying by degrees at Carcassonne, as I know a lot of dogs are, but that day I stroked him left me haunted and I am so pleased he will be out!  Thank you for letting me know Christine.
10. They would not fare at all well if they go into a refuge but I think would easily suit a nice retired couple?  From another forum :- Owner died suddenly leaving two little dogs, (mother & son, Jack Russells lookalikes, 12 & 10) searching for a kind home. Please contact us ASAP if you can offer these two gentle little dogs a new life and home ... (They both have fully up-to-date passports: Chip N°945000000489810 and Chip N°945000000487512)
11. Yes I agree and I wouldn't want that - duly reprimanded, thank you! :)
12. Catalpa - I am not in any way inferring that there is a problem with Phoenix - actually I have a great deal of time for them and support them financially whenever I can - we got three of our dogs off them!  I DID however see the two dogs in question on their list of dogs for adoption with a telephone number of a lady to get in touch with if anyone was interested - no question that they were these dogs as it gave their names and the photographs were the same as the ones posted on here - no mistake there.  Interestingly the pictures were removed only the day that Uni was put to sleep as when I read what had happened on here I went immediately to look.  I was concerned to know what had happened, NOT because I felt that there was anything untoward to do with Phoenix - though I admit I worded it badly!  I was simply curious to know why Phoenix had had them 'advertised' for at least three weeks and yet what happened happened when I know that Sheelagh and Richard would NEVER have let that happen had they know it might and yet they were clearly involved with the dogs at some point!  It's only right that you should leap to their defence - quite so and I apologise if I gave the wrong impression.  I am very relieved to know that Christine has stepped in to take Porche and that now puts an end to this regrettable tale.
13. Was there a 'happier' end to this distressing story I wonder?  I saw these two dogs on the Phoenix Association site at least a month ago - bit puzzled as to how it all went so wrong for Uni as they explicitly say they NEVER let dogs be put down....... I am assuming they never actually HAD the dogs so am confused as to why they had them on there?  I have had dogs off them and would like to think my trust in them has not been compromised in any way as I often recommend them to people....  Did you manage to secure Porche Christine then?
14. Oh Anne, how is Connie?  I've only just seen this post!
15. Sounds like a plan for the time being - to keep the poor thing going till you can maybe track down the owner - perhaps one of your neighbours knows who he is?  Ask at your local Mairie?  Or more likely, the person whom you rent your fields off - they usually know who's land borders maybe?  Your kindness will get him through in this hot weather at least especially if he has some shade.  Good luck and hopefully someone will come up with some answers for you.
16. On my is this true?  Christine - are you sure that they have done the deal with Carcassonne?  What's the bit at the bottom of the picture that seems to say they might have not??  I so hope it's good news and that he has a good home - dare not tell my lady she has lost him till I know for sure!  I didn't do a lot to help and in any case it's never enough..... I would make it the rest of my life's work to help dogs anywhere.  I found the link a bit confusing so wait to be certain before I email the English lady who was going to see him next week - I know she will be disappointed she couldn't move quick enough to get him - but if Malcolm is saved that's the most important thing!  She can always rescue something similar when she is more prepared.  Can you make sure for me Christine?  Would be very grateful - Spa at Carcassonne can be a bit tricky with other associations finding homes for their dogs Rowan tells me, so...... let's be certain.
17. I often find that after you remove a tick from the dogs, it leave quite a nasty lump which can hang around for aages.  At first I thought it was because I had left the head in........ but no, I always use a tire tick implement anyway, no I think it's just the after effects of the nasty jaws of these blighters.  So, I use tee tree oil a lot for small wounds on the animals and find it disinfects and heals like no other, doesn't sting on open bites either - good stuff.  Also did you know that if you get some Neem oil, mix it with warm water in a spray bottle and spray immediately on the dogs' coats, it puts ticks off arriving in the first place - not an offensive smell (bit earthy) but you can mix it with some drops of lavender oil if necessary.  Neem oil works on aphids on your roses also...... totally non chemical so kind to all things.  Just some natural remedy tips that I know work for my animals - I hate all things chemical and they're not 100% anyway.
18. I've put him on AngloInfo Christine - that is where this lady who is interested in him picked him up.  She emailed me this morning and is going to try and get to him next week!  She has a small problem in that she and her husband organise bike rides over the Pyrenees and she drives the support vehicle in a ride in June - we need to maybe help her foster him during that period, I don't know yet.  No one else showed any interest in my posting on AI in my area - maybe I should try and put him on another area - it's B stupid forum in that you have to set up a new user name for each area you post on....!!
19. Lisa I did something similar to you - letting the horse free to find some respite shade and giving water and extras, mainly really early in the mornings or at night so as not to be seen.  I struggled with trying to persuade a local vet to help and in the end went to the Gendarmes and threatened with the local press too!  I was very lucky - they sorted the owner out and then asked if I was prepared to take the horse away which I did - I didn't have any horses or land at the time (this was years ago down in Provence) but I was able to get her to a temporary rescue place where I looked after her each day till she was strong enough to travel (she was hugely emaciated and weak) and then paid for her to be sent to a permanent rest home in the Loire Valley.  Try the Gendarmes anonymously explaining why you don't want to leave your name in case this weirdo pesters you.  They might be able to help.  It's a horrid thing to stand by and have to watch I know - the other thing would be to let him out one night.............spirit him away..... oooow maybe I shouldn;t have said that!
20. Thanks Christine - good to know as he is very much on my mind poor fellow - I have sent these pics to the lady who is still interested and who is now hoping to go and see him on 1st June.  I called the Spa at Carcassonne yesterday and told them this just in case they decided to stick him on the hit list!  I am not getting my hopes up too high for this lady to have him but then again, yes I am hoping like crazy for him.  Rowan mentioned that the Spa had turned away a young girl who was after him because they were suspicious of her motives - looking for a 'hard' dog they thought............ just what the poor chap doesn't need!  I'm glad that they are being responsible at least and they told Rowan that they would prefer an English lady to take him....
21. You could try Equine Rescue in France who are not down near you but might have contacts in the area?  I have horses and I hate to hear of this sort of thing!
22. I may have mentioned this before but was reminded today when I saw bags of the stuff at my local Point Vert!  It can be lethal to dogs!  Whilst I was mentioning this to the guy who runs the shop and making sure he mentioned the fact to anyone who bought it, a lady listening at the check out did her pieces!  She said her dog was terribly ill and the vet didn't know why but she now put two and two together after hearing what I said as she had just bought some for her flower beds!  She dumped her shopping and hurtled off to the vet...........  Apparently it smells of chocolate but depending on how much the dogs ingest, it can make them very ill indeed and worse!  Sorry if I've posted this before, but you can't be too careful.
23. These are sold readily in large bags at local garden centres and Point Vert etc., as an organic mulch.   Be warned - they are dangerous to dogs and in some cases have proved fatal depending on how much was ingested!  The dogs are attracted to the stuff because it smells of chocolate.
24. Beautiful pictures and a heart warming ending - kindness, there's nothing to beat it!
25. Dear Christine - thank you for those words and of course you are quite right in every sense.  Having been to Carcassonne and it having left such an impression I can see why Rowan gets so very upset - we would be a hopeless pair together!  The rule that Carcassonne have that they won't let other refuges take the 'strain' sometimes is a difficult one to fathom when it would help them and the dogs.  I know we can't help them all and it's all the more upsetting when you know there is a deadline to try and meet to save them from the final trip to the vet - or in this case, the Bull Terrier being so very very stressed to the point that he may well end up ill and then be put down also.  You are not harsh, just more controlled because deep down you feel the same or you wouldn't do all you do for so many of the dogs you help - we need a vertiable crusade my dears - a crusade in the name of animals in danger and despair.  Let's see what tomorrow brings.
