1. Minnie Is she friendly enough for you to be able to look inside her ears to see if she has a tattoo? If she has, you can phone up the Register Central Canine in Paris and they will tell you the name and address of the owner. You could also take a photo of her and put it on chien-perdu.org and hope her owner sees it, or you could maybe check to see on the same site if anyone has lost a dog with her description. Of course it is possible that she is chipped, as opposed to tattooed, and the local Marie should have a chip reader. Failing all that, and if you don't want to put posters up etc, then it is the local SPA, I guess..... Good luck!
2. Well... Until about an hour ago, Speed was going to a temporary home, just to get him out of the SPA. But this wasn't looking ideal. The family had made it clear that he isn't what they were after, and although they were kind enough to agree to take him as an emergency, it wasn't going to be for ever. So....(wait for it....) MERLIN IS TAKING HIM!!! We are meeting halfway on Wednesday. I am so pleased and excited. And we can all follow his progress on the forum! Not sure what the cause is yet....Watch this space, I guess! Yippee!!! Three more cheers for Merlin!
3. Hi all I am posting this cos I really want you all to see something amazing. About 2 weeks ago a little Brttany spaniel was brought to the SPA at Carcassonne. He appeared to be paralysed from the waist down, and could only just drag himself along by his front legs, although he could wag his little docked tail. The SPA vet just told us to wait and see. (although my next move was to be to take him to MY vet for some tests). The volunteers and the staff named him Speed, and we have been encouraging him to shuffle between us. Every afternoon we have been massaging his hind legs, which seem to have no muscle in them, as if he has never used them. He has an incredible lust for life and has been desperate in his attempts to reach us, when we stand a few feet from him calling his name (all of you who have taught babies to walk will know the drill.) But life in a SPA is not easy for a dog like that, and the hammer was about to fall on Speed. I myself have had to put down a dog who got paralysed in old age (but Speed is only about 2-3). And he did seem to be getting better... Anyway, on Saturday it was crunch time. Was he improving? I said yes, so did the staff. But we are not the ones who get to decide matters of life and death. And just look at this!! If the link doesn't work, please go to You Tube and search for "epagneul speed, spa". It is like the end of a cheesy Hollywood movie! Except for Speed it is (hopefully) only the beginning. Please pass this story on. By getting loads of publicity we can create a movement and maybe stop people making rush decisions before the animals have time to prove themselves. I think it will be a long road ahead for Speed, but what a start! And thanks to Merlin for offering to spring him before he could do any more than crawl. 4. Fab news. And three enormous cheers for both Merlin and Sue at Poorpaws. I don't know what I would do without the two of you! XXX
5. Congratulations! Lucky little Paloma. How many is that now?!!! Rowan
6. Yeah, my big toy is a Mac, but I like having a Windows laptop for compatibility issues (despite having Windows for MAc installed). Also the one that was stolen was a Sony Viao, and I am not sure the insurance company would be happy with too much of an upgrade at their expense!
7. Judie I think you deserve to feel smug! Enjoy it! Your animals are very lucky.
8. Could you upload pictures please? Much easier to find a home if people can see her. I would hate her to go to a SPA if it can be avoided...
9. Sue from PoorPaws had 2 more "dumped"on her yesterday. She was already packed out and is very fed up. The excuse was "we didn't expect to ever return to the UK". Well, your pets didn't expect you to either! Or at least not without them!
10. Thanks all! I am going on line shopping! Hurrah!]] PS if anyone could recommend me the best Viao I would be grateful! Need it to travel, so good battery life, not too heavy, preferably funky colour...
11. Hi everyone I am after a new Sony Viao, as mine was stolen in a burglary. But I need an English (or US) keyboard, as well as a receipt in Euros, for insurance purposes. Anyone got any ideas at all? Thanks Rowan
12. Billy was homed yesterday. A French couple with 3 young daughters. So he is going to be adored and spoilt, which is great news!
13. We have some at the Carcassonne SPA. About 8 weeks old. Also Sue has some at Poorpaws. Not sure what they are, tho!
14. Hi BJC It was great to see you again yesterday and M too. So glad she liked the dogs and I could see she was having trouble leaving Sasha behind. Breaks my heart every time, too. I think getting her to UK asap is the right thing, but I agree, Popeye needs a foster home so he is not cold and lonely. Rxxx
15. Have you tried the Carcassonne SPA website? It is run by the volunteers and is divided into small, medium and big dogs, all of whom are allocated a number so you can specify the dog you are interested in. http://spacarcassonne.e-monsite.com/
16. Anyone looking for a pedigree golden cocker spaniel? One has just been abandoned at the Carcassonne SPA by its owner. He is 4 years old and is great with cats and children, but not with other male dogs (females okay). He was abandoned due to fighting with his owner's other dog (a rottweiler, so he is a plucky little guy!), and the owner wisely realised that the rottie has less chance of being rehomed, so is reluctantly letting this chap go. Due to our excellent record of making SPA dogs happy, the Brits have been given first refusal, so please let me know asap! And please copy in Merlin, who I am hoping will coordinate while I am away for a few days earning much needed money! Here is a photo (help please!) Thanks all Rowan
17. Thanks Richard. Once again, sorry about the way things have worked out. My thoughts will be with you on Monday. Rowan x
18. Richard Being completely selfish about things, and bearing in mind there are lots of other dogs needing homes, is it possible for you to ask any of these people if they would take a dog other than Abby Rose? So sorry to hear about your other dog. Heartbreaking. Even talking about losing my little beagle makes my eyes fill up and my voice crack all these months later, despite having adopted 2 new dogs since then...
19. And here she is (or will be if someone can activate the link for me...please) taken today in the garden. She is far more confident already and is a total delight.
20. Okay, for all those of you who thought (like me) that husband would never relent, I am proud to announce the arrival of Bella (named in honour of Diana, for those of you who know), and as of today, no longer pregnant (or able to become pregnant). She is beautiful. Only day one, but busy settling herself in with the other two and destined to have a lovely life, that I can guarantee! Thanks to everyone who gave me the courage to force hubby's hand (Merlin, Christine Animal inter alia). It is working out well, he is already besotted. Pics to follow.
21. Except Moon (in the pic above) is still looking for a permanent home. She is only in foster care right now!
22. I have so messed up! This is a different dog, still in great danger, but not Moon. This one is 5 years old and is fine with cats. Still female, by the way! Any takers now? Sorry. Much confused!
23. Sue Thanks for that. I think that could be the answer. Looks like I may have another dog on the way! Rowan
