  1. Loud and clear on France 2 ! Tsonga lost in 4 sets, Monfils took 1st set, and currently leading 5 - 3 in the second... Happy watching ! @+ Andrew 44
  2. Re : plastic bags  - chez nous on dit " un pochon" ! Re : clocking in/out, one of my early memories of life in Saint Nazaire was in the car driving past the Atlantic Shipyard. My wife said 'Ne passe pas par là, c'est la débauche aux Chantiers' meaning of course that there was a huge jam as 3500 workers all left for home at the same time ! I still wonder what kind of revelry that was ! @+ Andrew 44380 Pornichet
  3. Who has come across 'c'est un cas social' ? Someone that the authorities should deal with. A suitable case for treatment ? @+ Andrew 44
  4. Richard of York Gained Battles In..... Where's Violet ?
  5. Sorry if my last post had already been mentioned. Also the smilie was supposed be at the end - after 'just catching up'. I'm obviously still not very good this ! Sorry again, Andrew 44
  6. If in polite society, something is 'fichu', not 'foutu' This is applicable elsewhere e.g. 'Je m'en fiche' rather than 'Je m'en fous' etc. Also for 'ni l'un ni l'autre', it would be neither one NOR the other (not OR). There is of course a liaison between 'one' and 'or' or 'nor', so it sounds the same ! @+ Andrew 44 (just catching up  )
  7. You are absolutely right of course, Norman. Would you, or someone  else, like to do an Index of the 28 pages ? The 'Diner de Con' just drifted into this thread via the variations in language and meaning of the word 'juste'. @+ Andrew 44
  8. Many thanks to Chancer, for researching the Youtube clips. The film is extremely difficult to follow. I saw it first years ago, and understood not a word ! Not even the plot ! The dialogue is very fast, with few pauses to assimilate what one just heard. Sub-titles are indispensable, I think, though some are rather approximate. Downloading and following the script is a bit laborious ! Sweet mentions comedian Raymond Devos, the king of the 'jeu de mots'. Well worth investigating. I think Jacques Villeret is one the great French actors. Always perfect in his different roles, comic or serious. You may like 'Un Crime au Paradis' with Josiane Balasko, but all his films are worth seeing.. @+ Andrew 44
  9. I'm a rare contributor, but I couldn't resist this one ! Juste means just or only plus other senses which are more difficult to understand. It's a jeu de mots which the 'con' in question cannot understand ! It goes completely over his head ! Quote found if you google  'Diner de cons - script' on about Page 31 of the PDF file The film stars some of the best comic and non-comic actors on French TV and cinema. This scene is between Thierry Lhermitte and the sadly late Jacques Villeret. I suppose the joke itself is not very subtle, but the look on Jacques Villeret's face as he strains to understand is a joy to behold, plus Lhermitte's frustration... I'm sure it's on Youtube. Search 'Juste Leblanc' I'll translate the jeu de mot bits as well as I can.. JV - C'est quoi son numéro ?            TL - C'est le 47. 47..... Il s'appelle Juste Leblanc.             His name's Juste Leblanc     His name's only/just Leblanc JV - (bemused) Il n'a pas de prénom ?                              No first name, then ? TL - Juste ! C'est le prénom : Juste.                                  Juste ! Juste's his first name ! JV - Juste ? C'est pas fréquent comme prénom, je crois que je ne connais personne qui s'appelle..    Juste ?  Not a lot of those around.... TL - (cuts in) Ne perdons plus de temps, monsieur Pignon : Juste Leblanc. I hope this helps and encourages you  to download and watch the film again. And again... Andrew 44
  10. I'm sure that your friend Marie will point out that this offer is only available on the first of next month. @+ Andrew 44
  11. Chancer, Have a look at Mailwasher - from Firetrust - to check mail while it's still on the server. It doesn't block spam, but lets you decide what you want and what you don't. It has a go at deciding what is spam or not,but you can label each mail for deletion or OK it. So it 'learns' what you want. Sorry, just re-read your post, and I suppose you read Hotmail on the server, so no help. Still, it might help someone. Apologies to OP for OT reply. @+ Andrew 44
  12. I agree with Clair (see above) - at least before continuing to delve into questions of 'malware' which may very well not exist ! If you click right on the Expatshield icon on your desktop, and then click on Propriétés - raccourci - you can see where the icon is trying to link. Mine says - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Expat Shield\bin\openvpntray.exe" If yours says nothing like that, then you have to re-associate it. Go manually into the folder (dossier), in Windows explorer (ordinateur). Navigate to the root of disk C: where you will see the folders available. Mine is 64 bits so there are two Program Files folders. If yours is 32 bits there may be only one - I don't remember. From there find the sub-directory Expat Shield\bin and thence the file openvpntray.exe. You should be able to launch the application by double clicking the file. To re-create the shortcut icon, click right on the file and drag it across to the desktop. When you release the right button, it will ask you (in French) Move here ?, Copy here ?, or Create icon. You can select Create icon, and you will have a pretty blue shield with 'openvpntray' under it. Test this, and if it works, delete the original offending icon, and rename the new one. This is surely easier to test than following the meanders of supposed alien attacks on your environment ! Maybe some people feel guilty about using Expat Shield to achieve their evil aims of watching BBC and ITV players outside the United Kingdom ! I hope this helps - though it may not solve your problem... @+ Andrew 44

  15. Sorry, the link is not live (must get round to that !) It should read             http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virée_de_Galerne             maybe the 'é' is a problem. Incidentally, here on the rainy windswept Port de Pornichet, is a bar-brasserie called La Galerne and I had to look up the meaning of the name in Wiki. We shall visit it later when the watery sun is virtually over the yardarm ! 'Elle tire son nom d'un vent de nord-ouest (noroît) froid et humide qui souffle en rafale sur l'ouest de la France, le vent de Galerne ou gwalarn, en breton.'. @+ Andrew 44
  16. I thought you knew all about the Vendée wars, WB ? Or are you just testing us ! http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vir%C3%A9e_de_Galerne That'll teach you you to go north of the Loire ! @+ Andrew 44
  17. Thank you ,Frenchie ! I was surprised that no-one else responded, but I suppose they've never had the pleasure... @+ Andrew 44

    Cialis

I can only suggest contacting your urologist for information about different solutions. I wish you every success, @+ Andrew 44

    Cialis

Yes indeed, idun. It's well known about Brigitte and the media say 'elle assume totalement'. And she does. She has a daily weekday radio show 14h to 16h  on RMC info where she invites a selection of specialists - sexologues, gynécos, pédiatres.... - and patiently runs a phone-in about all sorts of subjects, including les problèmes d'érection, what she calls 'le plaisir rapide' for gentlemen, even les femmes fontaine ! You are surely right about possible reimbursements - I'm sure I didn't dream it ! @+ Andrew 44

    Cialis

Hello Evianers, Firstly, I'm sorry that when I first replied on page 1, I had completely forgotten about your dreadful experience with prostate cancer. Concerning side effects, if your doctor has prescribed it, he/she has certainly taken your medical history into account, so no major concerns about heart problems etc. but they are described here                              http://www.cialis.com/Pages/home.aspx I know that Cialis is prescribed for treatment of benign enlarged prostate, as well as ED - see http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm274642.htm I've followed up all these pills having experienced some problems linked to restricted circulation - principally narrowed arteries in the legs, and carotids. All that, thanks to years of dissolute living, excess cholesterol and smoking ! I've since been operated on... Concerning the cost, yes, it's ridiculously expensive thanks to pharmaceutical companies and their patents. However, I'm sure I heard somewhere - probably Brigitte Lahaie on RMC - that there was reimbursement in the case of prescription following procedures such as your husband's. You may wish to enquire about that. Also your doctor's prescription of Cialis rather than Viagra. They all function in the same way, but as mentioned, Cialis lasts longer,(and I think is more expensive !) thus making it more suitable for 'spontaneous' relationships, hence the 'weekend' tag. I don't know about your relationship of course, but in ours, spontaneous weekend flings or adventures are out of the question ! So my question would be why not Viagra, which lasts about 4 hours, and is fine for 'planned' occasions, and I'm pretty sure it's cheaper ! The Pfizer patent was supposed to expire this year, but apparently has been extended to 2020 ! However, generic versions exist and can be obtained online, but I don't suppose I'm allowed to tell you about that ! I have absolutely no professional knowledge of this, only personal interest and common sense... I sincerely hope that this can help you in your decisions and future research. Best wishes, Andrew 44 @+

    Cialis

Surprised no-one has replied ! Cialis is one of the treatments for ED (erectile dysfunction) together with Viagra and Levitra. It"s known as the weekend treatment, because its effect allegedly lasts longer than the others. I don't know why you have been prescribed it, but a google search will tell you all you need. HTH @+ Andrew 44
  23. Hello WB, In a recent tennis match, a line judge was 'overrulé', but didn't get 'un standing ovation' ! @+ Andrew 44
  24. Hello 'Les gens qui savent...', The 5 euro option for international calls has finally appeared in the Espace abonné 2€ options menu, and normally calls can be made to and from abroad. However, although Chancer  mentions ' to phone within the UK', ie le roaming or 'itinérance', this is not at all clear ! I've trawled through the Free forums till I'm cross-eyed, but no-one (I think !) confirms that roaming is possible. All I want to know is, can one 'capter un réseau' abroad now ? Orange ? Vodafone ? If you know better, I would be delighted to hear from you ! Strewth, all this for two measly weeks in the UK later in the month ! Apparently Prixtel do a forfait of minimum 2 euros for the same as Free mobile, including international ! http://www.prixtel.com/particulier/offre-forfait-mobile Hope this helps, @+ Andrew 44
